Oakland’s Measure FF, a voter-enacted ballot measure passed in November 2014, provides annual increases to Oakland’s Minimum Wage based on the local Consumer Price Index (CPI). Effective January 1, 2019, the rate rises 57¢, from $13.23 to $13.80 per hour. The law also requires that employers inform employees of the increase by December 15, 2018. To assist employers, the City of Oakland has posted notification posters at oaklandca.gov/minimumwage.

The City’s investments and long-term commitment to bike-friendly infrastructure and services helped win Oakland recognition as one of just 34 U.S. cities designated a Gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community by Washington D.C.’s League of American Bicyclists (LAB).

An ordinance authored by Oakland City Councilmember Dan Kalb and Mayor Libby Schaaf to save lives and reduce the potential for housing displacement in the event of a major earthquake was approved by the City Council’s Community and Economic Development Committee. The item will now move ahead to be heard by the full city council during their meeting December 11.
