We've combined the counter services of the Planning & Building Department, Oakland Fire Department, and Department of Transportation to provide for a "one-stop shop" experience. Effective July 1st, 2023, the City of Oakland will require all projects where paint will be disturbed in a pre-1978 structure to obtain a paint permit.
Effective July 1, 2023, the One-Stop Permit Center has expanded its walk-in hours to provide better service to our customers.
Oakland's Planning & Building Department will increase permit fees by 5% by June 16, 2023 in accordance with City Council approval earlier this year.
Director
Director Gilchrist has 35 years of experience as a planner and designer. He was director of place-based planning in New Orleans where he focused on the city's design and development strategy. He was previously a senior associate at AECOM in Atlanta and planning director in Birmingham, Alabama.
