OAKLAND, CA — Katano Kasaine wins the Freda Johnson Award for Trailblazing Women in Public Finance from the Northeast Women in Public Finance (NEWPF) and Bond Buyer. The award is named for Freda Johnson, a founding board member of the organization who was an executive vice president and public finance division head at Moody's Investors Service from 1979 through 1990.
The award recognizes women leading the public finance industry as “trailblazers,” leaders, innovators, and mentors. Among the many accomplishments held by Ms. Kasaine, the awarding team recognized her for her 25 years of public service, “results-driven leadership” and “mastery of building peak-performing teams.” Additionally, she was recognized for accomplishments in balancing the budget, stewarding the City’s AA credit rating and raising, and the management and oversight of multiple large-scale City projects.
A few of the past winners who have shared this honor include Muriel Siebert, the first woman to own a seat on the New York Stock Exchange, former Rhode Island Treasurer and current Governor Gina Raimondo, and Philadelphia City Treasurer Nancy Winkler.
The Northeast Women in Public Finance formally presented the awards at The Bond Buyer’s Deal of the Year ceremony in New York City on Dec. 6.
