The Oakland Promise is an initiative launched by Mayor Schaaf and the Oakland Unified School District in 2016 that aims to triple the number of Oakland high school graduates who are complete college by the year 2024.
Currently, there are approximately 2,200 babies born into poverty in Oakland each year. Our vision is to serve every baby born into poverty in the next decade.
Kindergarten to CollegeThere are approximately 5,000students who start Kindergarten in Oakland Public schools each year. Our vision is to serve all 5,000 through Kindergarten to College by 2020.
Future CentersThere are approximately 24,000 middle & high school students in Oakland Public Schools. Our vision is for all middle and high school students to have access to personalized support to set them on a path to college & career success.
College Scholarship & CompletionCurrently, fewer than 500 Oakland public school 12th graders graduate a 2 or 4-year college within 6 years of high school graduation each year. Our vision is to triple the number of college graduates from Oakland public schools by 2025.
