The Workforce Development Board has a network of One-Stop Career Centers that can help you find a job. Whether you were recently laid off or are re-entering the workforce after raising a family, the centers help you improve your qualifications and bring you together with employers who will benefit from your skills.

Access the redesigned CalJOBS system. An online resource to help job seekers and employers navigate California's workforce services by providing employment and labor market information for the State of California. The enhanced system allows users to easily search for jobs, build resumes, access career resources, find qualified candidates for employment and gather information on education and training programs.

Complete the online application and create your own login information, including a username and password. You will need your Social Security Number to create a login. Answer the on-screen questions, and begin your job search. Within minutes you will be looking through thousands of job openings statewide.

To help you find your next job, the One-Stop Careers Centers listed below provide free services such as:

  • Access to local, regional and national job listings, including the CALJOBS Internet job match system.
  • Contacts with local employers who are seeking workers.
  • Tools to help you assess you interests, aptitudes, skills and values so you can find the job that suits you best.
  • Seminars that will show you how to improve your qualifications and job search skills.
  • Assistance in preparing a strong, effective resume.
  • Connections to Bay Area organizations where you can get training, further your education or obtain support services.
  • Program links that can set you on a productive career path.
  • Job and career coaching.
  • An extensive, multimedia resource library with up-to-date information on jobs, careers, companies and the labor market.

There are five centers in the Oakland One-Stop network – one comprehensive center and three affiliate centers that extend the reach of the network to geographically and linguistically diverse populations.

The West Oakland Job Resource Center (WOJRC) is a place to learn about and prepare for careers in the building and construction trades.

The West Oakland Job Resource Center (WOJRC) individuals who are interested in applying to the construction trades apprenticeship programs. Apprentices can earn $13-$25 per hour plus benefits.

Criteria

  • Can pass a drug test (including marijuana)
  • Have at least an eighth grade reading and math level (preferably GED or High School diploma)
  • Have documents proving legal eligibility to work in the United States
  • Proof of Oakland residency for 6 months prior to registering with us, AND
  • Have a valid California Driver License or California ID

The WOJRC will not only help you get a job, but into a career. We will help you learn lifelong skills in building and constuction, while earning wages. The WOJRC also screens individuals for employment opportunities with the City of Oakland, Port of Oakland, Oakland Army Base construction project, and other construction projects. THE WOJRC is a joint project of the City of Oakland, employers, unions and community organizations.

WOJRC Services

Workshops: General orientation to the construction trades and apprenticeships held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Pre-Apprenticeship Test Preparation WOJRC also holds test preparation assistance for apprenticeship exams every Tuesday 5:00 to 7:00 pm at 1801 Adeline Street, Room 210 Oakland, CA 94607. Call 510 419-0509 to register.

We hold information workshops of Oakland residents interested in building and construction trade careers on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. We also hold specialized workshops geared towards women and workshops for the various construction trade apprenticeship programs.
