About the Program
Shared e-scooters are the newest transportation option for getting around Oakland. They are useful for short trips, and have the potential to help achieve the goals of OakDOT’s Strategic Plan, which calls for expanding access to shared mobility services, improving transportation choices, and minimizing parking demand, congestion and pollution. However, when used improperly e-scooters can obstruct sidewalks, curb ramps, and other portions of the public right-of-way. Shared E-scooters are required to be able to lock to a bike rack. Up to two E-scooters can be locked to each bike rack, as long as they are locked to the same side of the rack, leaving the other side available for a private bike or scooter.
For the 2022-2023 permit year, Oakland's three permitted operators are LINK, VeoRide and Lime.

Data Sharing
As a condition of operating in Oakland, E-scooter sharing companies are required to provide publicly available, real-time data on the location of scooters available for rent. This data is provided via an Application Programming Interface (API) in the General Bikeshare Feed Specification (GBFS) format. OakDOT has made minor changes to the GBFS format, removing the Vehicle Identification Number in order to protect privacy. GBFS does not include any information about scooter riders or the trips they've taken. More information about GBFS is available here: https://github.com/NABSA/gbfs/...
GBFS feeds can be accessed through the following URLs:
