Under the Government Ethics Act, a Public Servant or candidate for City office cannot accept a gift when it is reasonably foreseeable that they could be influenced by the gift in the performance of an official act.

The purpose of gift restrictions is to prevent either the perception or the reality that gift giving influences public servants’ actions. To preserve public trust, City actions should always promote the public’s interests, and not personal or political interests.

$50 Limit on Persons Doing Business with City

A Public Servant cannot solicit or accept more than $50 in gifts or loans from a person doing business or seeking to do business with the department of the Public Servant.

$250 General Gift Limit

A Public Servant that is required to file a Form 700 may not accept gifts of more than $250 from a single source in a calendar year.
