Governor Gavin Newsom approved the Budget Act of 2021. The Budget includes $10 Million for Oakland's Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland (“MACRO”) program — funding Vice-Mayor Rebecca Kaplan requested - to allow Oakland to provide a strong program of civilian crisis responders. Kaplan thanks Governor Newsom, the State Legislature, and specifically Senator Nancy Skinner, for her amendments to the Budget Act of 2021.

The Oakland Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on July 10th, 2021, just before 10:30 PM, in the 1200 block of 52nd Avenue. Officers were dispatched to investigate a report of a shooting victim. Once on scene, officers located an adult male.

Oakland Police Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Douglas Avenue around 10:00 AM on June 30, 2021, to investigate reports of an individual selling illegal fireworks. Vital tips from community members led to officers arresting the individual and recovering more than 100 pounds of illegal fireworks and more than $38,000 in cash.

The September 30th state extension end date has no impact on the City of Oakland. Oakland’s moratorium on evictions and rent increases will last until the Local Emergency is terminated by Oakland City Council. All other points of the Governor’s extension may apply to Oakland residents and property owners.
