The City of Oakland received $36.9 million in State of California CARES Act funding. Of that amount, the Oakland CARES Act Home-Based Business Grant Program will distribute $500,000 in grants of $2,000 to $4,000 to home-based, for-profit businesses in Oakland. Working Solutions, a Bay Area nonprofit, is administering the application and grant-making process.

The application periods for three City of Oakland CARES Act-funded grant programs launched in September have been extended.

The Oakland City Council allocated $150,000 of that funding to the nonprofit Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area (LCCRSF) to provide legal advice and assistance on lease negotiations to small businesses that have suffered revenue losses due to COVID-19.

City of Oakland, Working Solutions Announce $1.375 Million in COVID-19 Relief Grants Made to Small Businesses

Late last night, (Friday, July 10), Alameda County issued a press release regarding updated State-issued guidance, dated July 9, stating that outdoor dining is prohibited in non-variance counties, which includes Alameda County. While Alameda County’s Health Officer Order had allowed for outdoor dining, the press release states that under this stricter State guidance, all restaurants, wineries, and bars in Alameda County may only be open for drive-through or pick-up/delivery options.
