Oakland, CA -- Yesterday, January 9, 2023, the City of Oakland held the inauguration of Mayor Sheng Thao, re-elected City Auditor Courtney Ruby, re-elected District 2 Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas, newly-elected District 4 Councilmember Janani Ramachandran, and newly-elected District 6 Councilmember Kevin Jenkins. Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan welcomes and congratulates Oakland’s Mayor, Auditor, and Councilmembers.
At yesterday’s Special Inauguration City Council meeting, Kaplan motioned to nominate Councilmember Fortunato Bas for her second term as Council President. The City Council showed the start of a united and collaborative chapter by unanimously approving the appointment of the Council President and Committee Chairs.
Kaplan states: “I am so thrilled to be joined by our newly -sworn -in and re-elected City of Oakland colleagues. I look forward to partnering to support the needs of our Oakland community. The work we do now will have a lasting impact – let it be of improving access to affordable housing, public safety, childcare, city resources, climate justice, pathways to education, and livable jobs.”
