Oakland, CA – On Tuesday, December 13th, 2022, Councilmember Treva Reid worked with several community partners to serve East Oakland’s seniors for the holiday season at the District 7 Holiday Food Drive.
“Our beloved community gems continue to show up for us through event hosting, cleanups, voting, public outreach, volunteering, and other forms of advocacy. They are the heart and backbone of East Oakland,” said Reid. “The significant leadership, involvement, and contribution of our seniors continue to inspire me. I am thrilled to honor them more with our community partners this holiday season. They deserve to be supported more as we approach a time of the year where they may be isolated within their homes.”
The event took place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the East Oakland Senior Center (9255 Edes Avenue, Oakland) where registered attendees received one ham or turkey, fresh produce, fixings, and other resources.
Last year Reid and community partners came together to serve 300+ meals to seniors and single mothers. This year she was able to do the same with the support of sponsors like BWOPA/TILE, Argent Materials, California Waste Solutions, PG&E, Schnitzer Steel, and Waste Management.
“We cherish the seniors in our East Oakland community, and acknowledge the sacrifices they have made for us and future generations,” shared William Crotinger, President of Argent Materials.
“The holidays can be a season of stress for families already struggling to make ends meet, but finding ways to alleviate the strain is what the season is truly all about. We were thrilled to support Councilmember Reid’s efforts to bring smiles to the faces of the residents she serves in the city we are so proud to call home for the past fifty years,” said Tasion Kwamilele of Schnitzer Steel.
