OPD News: Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred just before 9:30 a.m., May 25, 2022, in the 800 block of 35th Street. Oakland Communications Division received a call from an off-duty OPD officer who stated they were involved in a shooting with an individual who was believed to be armed.
Upon arrival, officers contacted the off-duty officer. After a search of the area, patrol officers located a loaded firearm.
During the preliminary investigation, an individual arrived at an area hospital with gunshot wounds. That person is in stable condition and is believed to be the person involved in the OIS. The off-duty officer was not physically injured.
At this time, we do not believe there are any additional individuals involved in the shooting.

This officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section, Internal Affairs Division, and the Oakland Community Police Review Agency.
The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave which is standard protocol.
In an abundance of caution, a nearby school was temporarily placed on lockdown. That school was determined not to be involved in the shooting incident and the lockdown was lifted.
