The Oakland Police Department’s dedicated officers seize multiple firearms and a large sum of narcotics, within 30 minutes. On January 16, 2022, just after 7:00 PM, officers were in the 7700 block of Bancroft Avenue conducting a security check, when they observed an individual in possession of a large quantity of suspected marijuana. As officers contacted the individual, the individual ignored their commands and ran off.
During the foot pursuit, officers observed the individual holding a firearm, which later fell to the ground. Eventually, the individual gave up and was safely taken into custody. Following a short search, officers recovered the unregistered, loaded firearm, as well as a large amount of marijuana, suspected cocaine and methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (ecstasy), packaging material, and scales (pictured above, left), in the individual’s vehicle. The individual was arrested for numerous weapons and narcotic-related offenses.
On a separate incident, just after 7:30 PM that same evening, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of 76th Avenue to investigate the report of a dispute, and a person brandishing a firearm. Upon arrival, officers observed multiple individuals in the area, two of which, walked towards a nearby residence and appeared to drop an unknown object next to the porch. As officers walked towards the residence, they observed two firearms on the ground in the same location the two individuals dropped the unknown object. Officers safely detained three individuals.
Additional officers arrived and observed a rifle (pictured above, right) on the backseat of a vehicle parked on scene. It was later determined that the vehicle belonged to one of the detained individuals. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and numerous firearm-related items, as well as narcotics, were located. All three individuals were arrested for weapons and narcotic-related offenses.
