About the Fellowship
The Deeply Rooted Youth Fellowship is an opportunity for Oakland youth and young adults to influence the planning for Oakland's future. The Oakland General Plan is the 'blueprint' for how we want Oakland to look by 2045. The General Plan will influence where and what types of housing will be built; what parks and recreation facilities will be developed; how we will deal with climate change; and other planning questions. The Deeply Rooted Fellowship is recruiting young leaders to help with community outreach and engagement for the Oakland General Plan update.
Deeply Rooted will select up to 20 youth Fellows to participate in this opportunity. Selected Fellows will have a passion for participating in city planning, a commitment to engaging residents who have historically not been involved in city planning, and the desire to promote youth involvement in the planning process.
Applicants must be Oakland residents. Preference will be given to young people living in City Council districts 2, 3, 5, 6, & 7. Fellows will begin working in June 2022 for a 2-3-year period. This summer (June and July 2022) will be focused on startup and training activities. Fellows will work for 25 hours each month in June and July, and for approximately 5-7 hours each month beginning August 2022. Fellows will work on the following activities: engaging with community-based events; presenting at community and school events; organizing social media campaigns; and building a mini-grant program. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend.
