COUNCILMEMBER TAYLOR RECAPS ACCOMPLISHMENTS FROM HIS FIRST TERM IN A RECENTLY LAUNCHED VIDEO
Oakland, CA – Four years ago, Councilmember Loren Taylor was on the campaign trail stating his resolve to stand up for District 6 and underserved Oaklanders. Since then, in partnership with community, he has developed transformational policies, secured deeper and more equitable investments, and implemented high-impact programs that deliver on Oakland’s values. Accomplishments highlighted in the video include:
- Enhancing public safety as Co-Chair of the Reimagining Public Safety Taskforce, co-authoring the ballot initiative that strengthened civilian oversight of OPD, and developing the Stand Tall Call to Action.
- Advancing housing and homelessness initiatives as Chair of the Life Enrichment Committee, spearheading the creation of the Encampment Management Policy, and supporting the development of more than 800 affordable housing units in District 6.
- Fostering a more vibrant and inclusive economy with the launch of the ESO Ventures, authoring of the Local Business Empowerment Through Contracting legislation, and establishing Liberation Park in partnership with the Black Cultural Zone.
- Improving the health and well-being of residents by envisioning and helping establish the Saba Grocers Initiative, activating the outdoor gym at Arroyo Viejo Park, and launching an annual Mental Health Awareness Festival.
“It truly takes a village to make transformative change. I am grateful for the countless community partners and residents, who have come together with my office to achieve a lot during my first term. Even though there is much further to go, it is great to take a pause and take inventory of what we have achieved together.” said Councilmember Loren Taylor, whose recently released, “Four Years in Four-ish Minutes” video can be found on his YouTube channel and Facebook site.
