SHOTSPOTTER ACTIVATIONS LEAD TO ARRESTS AND RECOVERED FIREARM

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating two separate shootings. The first incident happened just after 3:00 AM, June 6, 2021.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating two separate shootings. The first incident happened just after 3:00 AM, June 6, 2021. Officers responded to a ShotSpotter Activation in the 3100 block of Harrison Street. Upon arrival, officers saw an individual attempting to hide a firearm in a vehicle. Officers recovered the weapon and searched the area where they found a casing matching the caliber of the recovered firearm. Officers took the individual into custody and did not find any person, vehicle, or buildings struck by bullets.

The second incident happened just after 2:00 PM, in the 1600 block of 8th Street. Officers were dispatched to the area after two ShotSpotter Activations recorded a total of 20 rounds. Upon arrival officers located a scene, however, no person, vehicles, or buildings were struck by bullets. During their investigation, officers recovered video of the scene showing an individual firing multiple rounds. An individual matching the person in the video was located at an area hospital where they were arrested.
