For many years now, the Montclair Village Association and city-wide community have been working towards implementing a safer walkable space that can host community gatherings and celebrations, particularly highlighting Oakland’s talented young artists while supporting our small businesses. This is why after being elected in 2018, I worked directly with the businesses and community to champion this project over the finish line.
Today I am thrilled to say the contract for the project has been approved and groundbreaking for Antioch Court is on the horizon. I want to thank Daniel Swafford and our amazing business owners in the Village Association for their hard work and dedication to this project as well as everyone who donated, called, emailed, and met with the city to move this forward. I also want to thank Wlad Wlassowsky, former Assistant Director of Oak DOT and Supervisor Joseph Tanios from Oak Public Works for their dedication and partnership for this project.
I cannot wait to celebrate the groundbreaking of our new Montclair Village Plaza, so that we can have our Oakland young people and families join in community building and breaking bread.
