June 2021: Welcome to the City’s Gateway Industrial District Newsletter! We look forward to updating you on current and upcoming activities.
Gateway Industrial District Open for Business!
Our December 2020 newsletter highlighted the City’s completion of its public improvement work at the Gateway Industrial District (formerly the Oakland Army Base) — including installing all-new roads, landscaping, and pedestrian and bike trails.
Companies Currently Operating in the Gateway Industrial District include:
Providing Local Jobs:
The West Oakland Jobs Resources Center provides a location for developers and operators to seek local job applicants. The Oakland Army Base Community Jobs Oversight Commission is tasked with overseeing compliance with the Army Base Construction and Operations Jobs Policies, which applies to Large Employers. Currently, Good Eggs is the only Large Employer. The West Oakland Jobs Resource Center reported to the Oversight Commission on June 17th that Good Eggs is fully compliant with the Operations Jobs Policy and has exceeded local, disadvantaged, and temporary hiring goals. The Oversight Commission meets every 3rd Thursday at 4:00 pm.
Construction Completed:
Prologis has completed construction of a 189,038 sq ft warehouse logistics space at 2001 Maritime Street. Tenant Custom Goods, will operate the site as a US Customs and Border Protection Centralized Examination Station. Click here to read more!
Air Quality:
To address Air Quality, the City is working with the Port to implement the Truck Management Plan (TMP) and with the developers to implement individual Diesel Emissions Reduction Plans, consisting of construction and operations plans. The draft Operational Air Quality (AQ) Plan for Custom Goods at 2000 Maritime Street is available for public review and comment until July 15, 2021. Please email any written comments to Corey Alvin at calvin@oaklandca.gov. Click here for access to the draft AQ Plan.
Proposed Relocation of California Waste Solutions (CWS):
The proposed relocation of CWS from 3300 Wood Street and 1619/1820 10th Street to 2308 Wake Avenue is nearing its final planning and real estate hearings. At its June 16, 2021 meeting, the Planning Commission provided its recommendations to approve the planning actions, including the California Environmental Quality Act Addendum, Conditional Use Permit and Design Review for the proposed project.
The City Council is scheduled on July 6, 2021 and July 20, 2021 to take final action on both the planning actions listed above as well as on the real estate action, a proposed Lease and Disposition and Development Agreement (L/DDA). Check the Gateway Industrial District webpage for City Council hearing updates.
Truck Management Plan (TMP) Update:
In the summer of 2020, the City and Port engaged West Oakland Stakeholders to get feedback on the truck routes and truck parking proposals contained in the Truck Management Plan (TMP). Concerns were raised about Frontage Road and since then, the City and Port studied various scenarios for Frontage Road. An announcement will be made soon about the availability of the Frontage Road study. Check the TMP website for updates.
City and Port Joint Outreach:
The Port and City host bi-annual public engagement meetings to provide timely updates and information on the redevelopment activities of the former OAB lands. The next Joint City and Port Outreach meeting is expected during the Fall of 2021. These meetings have neutral facilitation to maximize feedback, including questions and concerns from participating stakeholders. Keep an eye on your email inbox for notifications of upcoming outreach meetings.
