On February 9, 2021, at about 10:07 a.m., Oakland Police Officers responded to the area of 47th Avenue and E. 12th Street after 911 callers reported armed individuals entering a commercial building.
Upon arrival, officers located multiple individuals in the area matching the description reported by the callers. As officers secured the area for safety precautions, they learned that the individuals were responsible for an armed robbery at a marijuana grow. During the preliminary investigation, officers located a suspect in a nearby yard. The officers established communication with the suspect, who refused to surrender, comply with the officers’ orders and negotiation attempts.
For the safety of our community and the potential level of violence by an armed suspect, OPD’s Tactical Operations Team, the OPD’s Emergency Rescue Vehicles and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to provided additional resources. Subsequently, OPD Tactical Operations Team officers were able to approach and arrest one of the suspects. There were no major injuries reported.
We understand when crime-related incidents occur it causes trauma to our community. We appreciate those who came forward and reported this crime. We will continue to support our community members and businesses who were inconvenienced during this incident.
