The Oakland Police Department reports a spike in homicides for the month of July. We ask our community members and city partners to help us find those responsible for these violent crimes.
Austin, Chicago, Charlotte, and San Antonio are just a few of the nation’s major cities that are experiencing a spike in homicides. The city of Oakland is also dealing with the same issue. The Oakland Police Department reports for the month of July, 11 people lost their lives to violence in Oakland, in comparison seven people were killed in July of the previous year.
The Wall Street Journal wrote an article titled, “Homicide Spike Hits Most Large U.S. Cities.”
The Oakland Police Department is committed to the service and safety of our community. Key arrests have been made and OPD’s Ceasefire Team, the independent Department of Violence Prevention, and Community Partners continue to work towards reducing gun violence and improving public safety.
The Department continues to see a sustained level of inner group and renewed conflicts with gangs and groups, generating gunfire not only at each other but also shootings at homes and cars.
We continue to ask our community to partner with the Department and the City to reduce violence by helping to provide information: “If you know something, say something.”
On July 27, 2020, at 12:55 PM, the Oakland Housing Authority Police responded to the 1300 block of 66th Avenue on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. On July 31st, 2020, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
On July 28, 2020, at 12:16 AM, officers responded to the 2300 block of Valley Street on a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male suffering from a stab wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
On July 26, 2020, at 6:17 AM, officers responded to Lake Merritt Boulevard on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
On July 25, 2020, at 11:35 PM, officers responded to the Alameda County Hospital to investigate a report of an adult male who had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Officers and investigators determined the crime scene/shooting occurred in the 200 block of Hegenberger Road.
On July 20, 2020, at 6:54 PM, officers responded to the 2600 block of 26th Avenue on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.
July 18, 2020, 10:21 PM, officers responded to Pleitner Avenue and School Street on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
On July 17, 2020, at 10:36 PM, officers responded to the 500 block of Julie Ann Way on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult female and adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The female victim was pronounced deceased.
On July 17, 2020, at 4:10 AM, officers responded to the 1500 block of 9th Street on a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male who had suffered stab wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
On July 2, 2020, at 4:58 PM, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of 72nd Avenue and International Boulevard. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
On July 1, 2020, at 7:34 PM, officers responded to the 2500 block of Embarcadero on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
On July 1, 2020, at 12:11 AM, officers responded to the 2500 block of International Boulevard on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
