Oakland Summer Food Service Program Update
Oakland, CA — The City of Oakland Human Services Department’s Summer Food Service Program continues to provide free breakfast and lunch during the school break.
Approximately 20,000 children in the Oakland community depend on free and reduced-cost school meals during the school year. However, most families struggle to replace those meals for their children during the summer months. The City’s Summer Food Service Program bridges the meal gap by providing access to nutritious meals at convenient locations throughout Oakland while school is out of session.
The Oakland Human Services Department’s Summer Food Service Program is continuing Monday, June 29, 2020 with the addition of new partner sites and locations. More than 20 sponsored youth-serving sites throughout Oakland – including faith and community-based organizations will offer free breakfast and lunch for “Grab and Go” pick up and “Drive thru” food distribution. All food distributions are with no contact and social distancing.
Parents and guardians may pick up meals for multiple days without children present. There are no program requirements or paperwork to complete to benefit from the program. All kids 18 and under, and adults with disabilities enrolled in a school program can receive meals. Sites can also be found by using the CA Meals for Kids app for smartphones to locate a free food distribution site.
