Embark Apartments provides 61 homes for veterans, with nine units designed for residents with auditory, mobility, or visual impairments. The apartments are mostly one-bedroom, with one studio and four two-bedroom apartments as well.
Of the 61 units, 31 are set aside as permanent supportive housing for veterans who have experienced chronic homelessness, are homeless with a disability, or meet the definition of "other homeless" as defined by California's Veterans Housing and Homelessness Prevention Program (VHHP.) Applicants for these units will be referred by Alameda County's Home Stretch program and interested applicants should call 211 or (855) 862-1804 to access the Home Stretch program.
The building is under construction at 2126 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way in Oakland, near two Veterans Administration service offices. The VA and Abode Services will provide supportive services onsite to residents as well. Rents are subsidized by the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program and by project-based vouchers administered by the Oakland Housing Authority. This means residents will pay no more than 30% of their income for rent.
Pre-Applications must be received via an on-line application by noon on Monday, August 5, 2019, to be included in a lottery for available units.
