The City of Oakland has recently completed the Oakland Urban Greening Retrofit Plan (Plan) funded by a Prop. 84 grant from the California Natural Resources Agency. The main purpose of the Plan was to identify opportunities for retrofitting traditional “grey” infrastructure to green infrastructure projects that help improve water quality and manage stormwater runoff flows before reaching Oakland waterbodies and the San Francisco Bay. The Plan also created guidelines and guidance to help facilitate the inclusion of green infrastructure into capital projects and will help the City meet clean water regulatory requirements while supporting the City’s goal to become more resilient to current and future environmental challenges, such as climate change.
