Oakland, CA – Today, City Administrator Sabrina Landreth welcomed Alexandria McBride as the City of Oakland’s Chief Resilience Officer. Alexandria is an action-oriented leader who encourages collaboration and teamwork. She brings more than 9 years of experience in environmental policy, project management, finance, operations, and community-based initiatives. Alexandria is committed to developing equitable and social justice-oriented solutions to pressing urban issues and looks forward to applying this lens to our city’s Resilient Oakland playbook.

“Alexandria will help Oakland approach our most challenging and systemic issues through an equitable and resilient lens,” Mayor Libby Schaaf said. “Alexandria’s track record proves innovation and collaboration are her core strengths, and she’ll bring a dynamic energy to Oakland to help make our city thrive for all residents.”

The Chief Resilience Officer (CRO) is a position created to lead city-wide resilience building efforts, with the goal of helping Oakland prepare for, withstand, and bounce back from the “shocks” – catastrophic events like earthquakes, fires, and floods – and “stresses” – slow-moving disasters like sea level rise, homelessness, and economic inequality – that are increasingly a part of 21st century life.

With a focus on implementation, Alexandria will play a key role in bringing to life the pages of Resilient Oakland – a playbook and call to action released in October 2016 with support from 100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC).

“With Alexandria at the helm, we are thrilled to support the City of Oakland as a global leader in the growing urban resilience movement,” said Michael Berkowitz, President of 100 Resilient Cities.

Alexandria’s first day with the City of Oakland was August 27, 2018; her office is located in City Hall on the 11th floor. Please join us in welcoming Alexandria to the City of Oakland team.
