Stay Safe During New Year’s Eve Celebrations: No Celebratory Gunfire and Avoid Illegal Fireworks

The Oakland Police Department encourages everyone to celebrate this New Year’s Eve safely and not participate in celebratory gunfire and avoid illegal fireworks.

Oakland, CA –The Oakland Police Department encourages everyone to celebrate
this New Year’s Eve safely and not participate in celebratory gunfire and avoid
illegal fireworks.
We would like to remind everyone of the dangers associated with celebratory
firearm discharges and the use of illegal fireworks.
As a part of our commitment to public safety and the quality of life in our
community, the Oakland Police Department is focused on stopping/deterring
illegal gun use and fireworks.
During the holiday, the Department will increase staffing and direct officers to
patrol key areas of the City to ensure community safety.
 Celebratory Gunfire = Jail
 Those caught with fireworks can be fined from $1,000 to $10,000 and
could face imprisonment.
