The City of Oakland's First Oakland Poet Laureate Inaugural Address with opening remarks from Mayor Libby Schaaf, Cultural Affairs Division Manager Roberto Bedoya and performances by prominent Bay Area artists and poets. We'll have a chance to hear Dr. Ayodele Nzinga's inaugural speech and a special reading.

  • Additional readings by Marvin X (Guest griot), David Flores (current Poet Laureate of Richmond), Eevelyn Mitchell (current Poet Laureate of El Cerrito), and Tongo Eisen-Martin (current Poet Laureate of SF).

  • Rainin Fellow and Director of the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, Margo Hall (reading from Gem of the Ocean), and Lower Bottom Playa, Reginald Wilkins (reading from Two Trains Running)
