Hi Neighbor,

Today July 30, 2021, the Oakland- Alameda County Coliseum Authority (“OACCA) Board unanimously voted to approve a Term Sheet with the African American Sport and Entertainment Group (“AASEG”) to bring a Women’s National Basketball Association (“WNBA”) Team to Oakland. As a champion and strong advocate of this effort, I would like to expressed my gratitude, I am thrilled with this unanimous vote to move forward the process with AASEG to bring a WNBA team to Oakland. This can open up opportunities to bring jobs, tax revenue, revitalization, and community involvement for East Oakland and our entire community.

This vote comes after I scheduled a report to the Oakland City Council from the Executive Director of the OACCA, Henry Gardner, on the status of the OACCA’s term sheet negotiations with AASEG. On July 26, 2021, the Oakland City Council unanimously voted to authorize moving forward with the process.

AASEG is an Oakland-based group focused on creating economic opportunity for the Black community in East Oakland and using the Coliseum Complex as a vehicle for economic equity and social justice. The group's proposal to bring a WNBA team to the City of Oakland aligns with the city’s values to uphold and support women, to expand equity for the African American community, and to allow fans to root for a sport primarily led by black women. With both strong support from the Oakland City Council and OACCA, AASEG will now continue the process of meeting with the WNBA to bring a team to Oakland. #WEGOTNEXT!

In Solidarity,
