Oakland Police Press Release

On August 6, 2020, at 8:10 AM, in the 100 block of East 12th Street, Falck ambulance personnel flagged down Oakland Patrol Officers and advised them of a vehicle stopped in the roadway, and that the driver who was the sole occupant, was asleep with a firearm near his lap in plain view.

Officers attempted to establish communication with the non-responsive driver by using their patrol vehicle PA system and sounding the vehicle's horn and sirens. All efforts to wake the driver did not have an effect. OPD's "BearCat" an armored vehicle responded as an added resource to protect our community in the immediate area and our officers.

Further attempts were made to awaken the driver. Ultimately, the driver awoke and surrendered to police. The driver was safely taken into custody. Officers recovered two firearms.

The Oakland Police Department would like to thank Falck personnel. OPD continues our efforts to increase public safety in our community and reduce illegal possession of firearms.

This case is being prepared by investigators and will be presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for review and charging. Once the case has been charged, the driver’s name will be released.
