Interim Director, Human Resources Management
On July 1, 2023, Mark Love was appointed to serve as Interim Director of Human Resources Management following the retirement of Ian Appleyard.
Mark is a well-versed professional with a decade of expertise in public sector labor and employee relations across the Bay Area and Southern California. During his tenure in Oakland, Mark immersed himself in labor negotiations, playing a pivotal role in securing three multi-year labor contracts for the City. As the former Human Resources Director for the City of Vallejo, he led a dynamic, full-service HR department, navigating the challenges of the pandemic while deftly negotiating agreements with diverse labor groups. Mark is a dedicated leader who prioritizes leading with integrity, empathy, and collaboration.
